Is Alcohol a Drug?
Alcohol is a prohibited substance. It’s a depression that slows down vital functions, causing slurred speech, unstable movement, skewed perceptions, and a delayed reaction time.
It’s best described as a chemical that hinders a person’s ability to think correctly and distorts their judgment regarding how it affects the mind.
Despite being classified as a depressant, the amount of alcohol consumed determines the type of effect. Most people drink alcohol for the stimulant effect, such as a beer or a glass of wine, to “unwind.” However, if a person consumes more alcohol than their body can handle, they will suffer from alcohol’s depression effects. They start to feel “stupid,” and their coordination and control degrade.
Alcohol overdose causes more depressing effects (inability to feel pain, toxicity where the body vomits the poison, and finally unconsciousness or, worse, coma or death from severe toxic overdose). The amount of food consumed determines the severity of these reactions.
