FAQs About Coastal Detox of Southern California

Why do so many members of the Coastal Detox team have personal recovery experience?

Many members of the Coastal Detox team are in long-term recovery themselves or have supported loved ones through addiction. Their lived experience is paired with professional credentials and ongoing clinical training, allowing them to provide compassionate, evidence-based care without judgment.

In fact, many of our staff were once Coastal Detox patients themselves. Once someone receives the appropriate education, training, and clinical licensure, and has at least one year of continuous sobriety, we happily offer career placement so they can help others overcome their addiction.

Patients often tell us they feel understood from the moment they arrive because our staff recognizes the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges of early recovery. While every treatment plan is guided by licensed medical and clinical professionals, our team’s firsthand understanding of recovery helps create an environment built on trust, hope, and genuine connection.

Coastal Detox combines medically supervised detox, residential treatment, dual diagnosis care, and holistic therapies within an intimate setting with a low patient-to-staff ratio.

Patients receive individualized treatment plans that may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT, trauma-informed counseling, family involvement, and experiential therapies. Because our program is intentionally smaller than many facilities, our clinical team can provide highly personalized attention throughout every stage of treatment.

Our goal isn’t simply helping someone stop using drugs and alcohol—it’s helping them build a sustainable foundation for lifelong recovery.

Addiction affects the entire family, which is why Coastal Detox encourages healthy family involvement whenever clinically appropriate.

Our program includes family education, therapy opportunities, and ongoing communication designed to help loved ones better understand addiction, establish healthy boundaries, improve communication, and prepare for life after treatment. Recovery is strongest when patients leave treatment with an informed and supportive network behind them.

Coastal Detox provides treatment for adults struggling with alcohol or drug addiction, including opioid, fentanyl, benzodiazepine, stimulant, and polysubstance use disorders. We also specialize in treating co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD through integrated dual diagnosis care.

Because every patient receives a comprehensive medical and clinical assessment before treatment begins, our team develops an individualized care plan based on each person’s physical health, mental health, substance use history, and recovery goals.

Yes, Coastal Detox offers specialized addiction treatment programs for specific populations that are tailored for diverse needs. We offer a dedicated track for women, featuring trauma-informed, gender-specific programming. Our LGBTQ+ affirming care includes culturally competent clinical support in a safe, inclusive environment. We respect and honor Native American traditions with specialized spiritual and cultural programming. Additionally, we support couples who wish to detox and recover together, providing joint treatment options that address relational dynamics alongside individualized care.

At Coastal Detox of Southern California, our treatment philosophy is that lasting recovery happens when medical care, evidence-based therapy, mental health treatment, and whole-person wellness work together.

We believe addiction is a treatable medical condition—not a moral failing—and every person deserves individualized care delivered with dignity and respect. By combining medical detox, behavioral therapies, holistic wellness practices, and aftercare planning, we help patients build the physical, emotional, and practical skills needed for long-term recovery.

While traveling for addiction treatment may be the right choice for some people, receiving care close to home offers several important advantages. Choosing a local San Diego treatment center allows patients to begin building a recovery network in the same community where they will continue their lives after treatment.

At Coastal Detox, patients have the opportunity to involve family members and loved ones in the recovery process when appropriate. Family therapy, education, and support can strengthen relationships, improve communication, and help create a healthier home environment for long-term recovery.

Staying local also makes it easier to transition into the next phase of care. After completing detox or residential treatment, patients can continue working with trusted outpatient providers, recovery coaches, therapists, psychiatrists, and peer support groups throughout San Diego County. This continuity of care helps reduce barriers to ongoing treatment and supports lasting recovery.

For many Southern California residents, remaining close to home also means loved ones can participate in family sessions, visit when clinically appropriate, and provide encouragement during treatment. At the same time, our peaceful, private setting offers enough separation from everyday stressors to allow patients to focus fully on healing.

Ultimately, the best treatment program is one that meets each person’s unique medical, clinical, and recovery needs. Our admissions team helps every prospective patient determine whether Coastal Detox is the right fit and develops an individualized treatment plan designed to support long-term success.
