If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for here, or if you are ready to begin the admissions process today, our team is available 24/7 at 858-333-7396.
Yes, most major PPO insurance plans provide coverage for medical detox and residential addiction treatment. Coastal Detox works with many major insurers, including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, and UMR. Coverage varies based on your specific policy, deductible, and out-of-pocket maximums. Our admissions team can verify benefits confidentially at no cost or obligation.
You can verify your insurance benefits by calling the admissions team or completing our online insurance verification form. Coastal Detox contacts your insurance provider directly and explains your benefits, deductible, copays, and estimated out-of-pocket costs. Insurance verification is confidential and does not obligate you to enter treatment.
Your out-of-pocket cost for treatment will depend on factors such as your deductible, coinsurance, network status, and remaining benefits. Some patients have minimal costs, while others may have larger financial responsibilities. Coastal Detox provides a personalized benefits review so you understand your expected costs before admission. Payment plans or financing options may be available for patients in good standing. Ask our admissions team for your detailed cost breakdown.Â
Yes, in many cases, Coastal Detox can arrange same-day or next-day admission. The admissions team is available 24/7 to complete a confidential assessment, verify insurance, and determine eligibility for detox or residential treatment. If a bed is available and clinical criteria are met, admission can often happen within hours.
To begin the admissions process, it helps to have your insurance card, member ID number, current substance use information, medication list, and any relevant medical or mental health history available. If you are calling on behalf of a loved one, we will need their full name and date of birth. The admissions team will guide you through a brief assessment and explain the next steps.
Yes, Coastal Detox accepts patients from all states and works with many out-of-state insurance providers to help cover your costs. Our admissions team will assist you in arranging travel and will even pick you up at the airport once you arrive. For many people who struggle with addiction, traveling out-of-state for rehab helps them break away from old patterns, negative influences, and triggering environments. Leaving home for residential treatment in a different state is exactly the change they need to start their recovery journey, giving them the space they need to focus solely on their health.Â
At this time, Coastal Detox does not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal, or HMO insurance plans. If you have an HMO, we recommend calling your insurance provider directly or logging in to your online insurance portal to search for a treatment provider in your network. In some cases, our admissions team can refer you to one of our trusted partners who accepts your policy. It’s important to note that even under major PPO insurance providers, individual policies vary in their level of coverage and their provider networks. We recommend calling or using our online insurance verification form to determine your exact benefits so you don’t have any surprises. If your insurance only covers part of treatment, we will discuss options for payment plans or financing based on your history and standing. Â
No, you can check your insurance benefits without any impact to your premiums or coverage. Insurance verification is completely confidential and protected by HIPAA privacy requirements. You are under no obligation to enter treatment after verifying your benefits. When you call our admissions line, you can find out your level of coverage within minutes. If a family member calls on your behalf, make sure they have your insurance information, date of birth, and complete legal name. Â
If you don’t have insurance, there are private pay options available. Depending on your financial standing and history, you may qualify for financing plans. A member of our admissions team will be able to help you understand the pricing and payment options available for you.Â
The difference between medical detox and residential rehab is in the intensity of medical monitoring and participation in addiction therapies. Medical detox is the first stage of treatment, focused on helping patients safely withdraw from drugs or alcohol under medical supervision. Residential rehab is the stage of treatment after detox and provides structured therapy, counseling, education, and support to address the underlying causes of addiction. While detox helps stabilize the physical body, residential treatment helps build the skills needed for long-term recovery.
Whether you need medical detox before entering rehab is best determined by a medical professional. Medical detox is typically recommended for people who experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop their drug or alcohol use. Even if you do not have withdrawal symptoms, detox may be necessary if you have a history of heavy substance abuse, or have previously experienced severe withdrawal syndrome. Detox is often a crucial first step before treatment for people who have other co-occurring medical or mental health conditions. A clinical assessment is the first step of the Coastal Detox intake process, so we can determine the safest and most appropriate start for your care.Â
How long detox and rehab lasts will depend on the substances you need to detox from, the amount and length of time you’ve been using drugs and alcohol, as well as your overall health and individual response to treatment medications. Medical detox typically lasts anywhere from 3 to 10 days until the last withdrawal symptoms are cleared. Stimulants, such as meth, cocaine, Adderall and some other prescription medications have the shortest detox timelines. Alcohol, opioids (including fentanyl and heroin), and benzodiazepines (including Xanax), have much longer detox timelines due to the severity of withdrawal symptoms and potential for potentially serious side effects, including Delirium Tremens.Â
Â
Ultimately, the length of detox depends on how long you experience withdrawal symptoms. Once you are feeling physically better and are cleared by a physician, then you can make the transition from detox to rehab. Residential rehab programs typically last for 30, although they can extend for 60 or 90 days based on your clinical needs, treatment progress, and recovery goals. Research on addiction treatment has consistently shown that longer treatment episodes lead to better outcomes, with greater sobriety rates up to a year after discharge.
Residential addiction treatment includes individual therapy, group counseling, family therapy, relapse prevention education, and dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders. Coastal Detox of Southern California employs evidence-based treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care alongside a wide range of holistic therapies. Our comprehensive treatment plans are individualized to address each person’s unique needs and recovery goals.
Yes, Coastal Detox treats both addiction and mental health conditions at the same time in our dual diagnosis treatment program. Many people who struggle with substance use disorders also experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, or other mental health conditions. Integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders addresses both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously, helping improve long-term recovery outcomes. Be sure to discuss your mental health concerns with our clinical team so they can craft an appropriate integrated care plan.Â
During the first 24 hours of detox, patients are only required to rest. On the day you arrive at Coastal Detox, our staff will conduct a brief medical assessment to establish your care plan. From there you will be guided around the facility, introduced to your therapists, and shown to your room where your belongings will already be waiting. You will be given quiet time to unpack, get settled, and rest up. You will be given medications to help ease withdrawal symptoms so you can get some much needed sleep. You will not be required to participate in any group activities or individual therapy until you no longer are experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms. You may even choose to have meals or snacks brought to your room if you do not feel up to dining with the other residents. Our priority is your comfort and making sure your body is given the appropriate amount of rest to begin recovery.Â
Attempting to detox at home without professional support can be extremely painful and potentially even life threatening. That’s why it’s important to seek care at a fully licensed medical detox facility like Coastal Detox of Southern California. Our expert clinical team will administer medications and supplements to ease any discomfort you may feel so that you can focus on resting while your body detoxes from drugs or alcohol.Â

Choosing the right rehab center is a deeply personal decision that can significantly impact your recovery journey. When evaluating your options, consider these critical factors:
A typical day at Coastal Detox is designed to support physical recovery from addiction as well as psychological wellbeing to lay the foundation for continued sobriety after rehab. Patients in early detox, typically the first 3-10 days, simply rest while under 24/7 medical monitoring. Once they are physically stable and feeling better, they move to a more structured daily schedule like the following:Â
Â
Weekend days consist of outings to recovery or alumni community events, or simply fun things to do in and around San Diego. Coastal Detox staff are all in active recovery themselves, and we try to show our patients that they can have fun, fulfilling, and healthy lives in sobriety.Â
Phone use during residential treatment at Coastal Detox is permitted on a limited, supervised basis for patients in good standing. Electronic devices are restricted during early detox, typically the first 3-10 days, so patients can focus on rest and recovering their physical strength. After this initial period, patients may be allowed to access their devices to communicate as needed with family, legal or probationary contacts, or employers. Phone use is monitored and subject to removal if it is a distraction to the patient’s recovery.
When going to detox or residential rehab, pack about a week’s worth of comfortable clothing, including sleepwear and activewear. Avoid shirts with any controversial messaging or symbolism, gang affiliation, or anything too revealing. Bring a pair of closed-toe sneakers for outdoor activities, and a sweatshirt for cooler evenings.Â
Â
Bring any prescription medications, as well as your government issued ID and health insurance cards. Also bring essential toiletries such as toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, hair brush, prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, feminine hygiene products, and lip balm. All toiletries should be new, sealed, and alcohol free.Â
Â
Yes, family members are encouraged to visit and participate in your addiction treatment while you’re in rehab. Coastal Detox facilitates family therapy as a regular part of our treatment programs. Having healthy family support leads to better outcomes in recovery, so we place special emphasis on educating family members about addiction, improving interpersonal communication skills, removing codependent or enabling patterns of behavior, and involving family members in aftercare planning.Â
Yes, we understand that many of our professional and executive patients will need to work remotely while in residential treatment. While the focus of rehab is your own personal recovery, Coastal Detox will adjust your treatment schedule to accommodate a limited amount of remote work each day in order to maintain your minimum professional requirements. Device use is supervised and only available for patients in good standing. You can ask our admissions team for details and expectations before your intake.Â
At Coastal Detox, each therapist, nurse, and case manager typically works with no more than 5-6 patients, each on an individual basis, ensuring that every patient has dedicated, one-on-one time with members of our medical and clinical staff. Coastal Detox of Southern California is a 12-bed facility, with a dedicated villa-style house for each level of care.Â
Â
Detox patients our housed in the same building as our medical office and clinical office space. Our detox program provides round-the-clock medical oversight and direct, anytime access to our registered nurses so they can offer medications or update dosages immediately as needed. Our low patient-to-staff ratio allows us to closely monitor patient nutrition and hydration, supplementing with additional vitamins or personalized nutrition plan as needed.Â
Â
Residential treatment patients receive daily individual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician. Therapists create a personalized treatment plan for each patient based on their unique needs. They will typically use a combination of therapies and techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness and breathwork, trauma therapy, and other clinical and holistic methods. This comprehensive approach ensures each patient receives the best possible care to support their long-term goals.
The experience at Coastal Detox is defined by our intimate 12-bed setting, which allows for significantly more individualized attention and the opportunity to build stronger, more meaningful relationships with our clinical and medical staff. This smaller scale fosters a quieter, more peaceful environment where customized treatment plans can be truly tailored to each person’s unique journey.
Â
By maintaining this specialized focus, we ensure that every patient feels like a valued individual rather than just another client in a system. This deeply personal approach stands in direct contrast to the often impersonal and institutional nature of larger treatment centers, where individual needs can sometimes be overlooked in favor of high-volume care.
Choosing a legitimate rehab center requires looking beyond marketing claims to verify the facility’s commitment to safety and ethical standards.
Â
At Coastal Detox, we believe transparency is the foundation of trust. We maintain full California licensing and Joint Commission accreditation. Unlike facilities that focus on high-volume admissions, our 12-bed size allows us to focus entirely on individualized, ethical care. We are committed to open communication, providing you with full transparency regarding our medical protocols, clinical expertise, and what you can truly expect during your recovery journey.
During detox and early recovery at Coastal Detox, you will receive comprehensive, around-the-clock support designed to keep you safe, comfortable, and stable. Our commitment to your care includes:
At Coastal Detox, we have cultivated a healing-focused environment designed to make your recovery journey as comfortable and supportive as possible. Our facility offers a comfortable, home-like atmosphere, ensuring a safe and welcoming setting where you can focus entirely on your well-being. We pride ourselves on a respectful, non-judgmental culture where privacy and confidentiality are paramount. Our intimate setting fosters a strong sense of community among patients, creating a supportive space where you can connect with others who share your goals for long-term health and sobriety.
Coastal Detox helps patients prepare for life after treatment by focusing on their long-term success from the very start. We work with patients to develop robust, personalized relapse prevention plans that identify triggers and strategies for maintaining sobriety, while simultaneously providing dual diagnosis support to ensure underlying mental health conditions are addressed. Recognizing the vital role of connection, we integrate family members into the support system to rebuild and strengthen foundations. Coastal Detox is committed to bridging the gap between residential care and independent living by providing tailored continuing care recommendations for PHP, IOP, and sober living, introducing patients to local community resources, and mapping out a comprehensive, personalized aftercare plan that clearly defines the path forward after leaving our care.
How involved family members can be during treatment is up to the discretion of each patient. Due to HIPAA privacy laws, Coastal Detox cannot release any treatment information about any current or former residents without express consent. For many patients, family involvement is an important part of their recovery journey. With the patient’s consent, loved ones may participate in family therapy sessions, educational opportunities, treatment updates, and discharge planning. Our team works to help families understand addiction, improve communication, rebuild trust, and develop healthy ways to support recovery after treatment.
Your loved one’s safety during detox is our top priority. Coastal Detox of Southern California is a fully licensed medical detox facility, meaning we meet the rigorous standards outlined by the Joint Commission and California Department of Health Care Services. Patients receive 24/7 medical monitoring and nursing support to help manage withdrawal symptoms comfortably and safely. Our clinical team and medical staff are fully licensed and rigorously trained to respond in emergency situations. Throughout medical detox and residential care, we continually assess each patient’s physical and psychological well-being, and adjust their care as needed.Â
Yes, after the initial stabilization period (around 1-3 days depending on the patient’s substance use history) patients are able to communicate with family and loved ones via phone or video calls, if they consent to receive those communications. Phone use is supervised and during designated periods only, so they can maintain family connections while still focusing on their treatment. Depending on the patient’s treatment plan and health progress, couples counseling and/or family therapy sessions may be arranged to strengthen relational bonds and prepare the family for supporting the patient after they leave rehab.Â
After detox or residential treatment ends, the Coastal Detox treatment team will work with your loved one to develop a personalized aftercare plan. Before discharge, our clinicians create an individualized continuing care plan that may include outpatient treatment, therapy, support groups, sober living recommendations, and other recovery resources. Families are often included in planning to help create a supportive transition home.
Supporting a loved one without enabling their addiction is an important balance. Supporting recovery often means learning new ways to help. Families and partners can benefit from education about addiction, healthy boundaries, communication strategies, and relapse prevention. Coastal Detox helps families understand the difference between supportive behaviors that encourage recovery and enabling behaviors that may unintentionally prolong substance use. Family therapy sessions are often the best way to learn healthy communication patterns, rebuild trust, identify enabling or co-dependent behaviors, and practice new recovery skills that support the whole family unit.Â
Coastal Detox stands apart from other addiction treatment centers based on its medically supported detox services, individualized treatment planning, evidence-based therapies, family involvement, and compassionate care in a comfortable Southern California setting. Our team focuses on treating the whole person—not just the addiction—while helping patients and families build a strong foundation for lasting recovery.
After detox or residential treatment ends, recovery continues with your personalized aftercare plan. Before discharge, each patient works with their Coastal Detox case manager to develop an individualized plan. This could mean referrals to outpatient levels of care, including PHP (partial hospitalization programs), IOP (intensive outpatient programs), and addiction therapists. We can also transport you to a sober living facility and help you find 12-Step groups to attend to continue your recovery. Your therapists will work with you throughout treatment to develop a relapse prevention plan and equip you with skills to manage triggers, stress, and uncomfortable emotions without relapsing to substance use. Coastal Detox alumni frequently gather for group activities on the weekends to support each other and keep each other grounded and accountable as they move through sobriety.Â
If you relapse after treatment, that is not something to be ashamed or embarrassed of. A relapse is a very normal part of the recovery process, not a sign of failure. Addiction is a chronic disease that requires life-long management. If you relapse, that’s your cue that it’s time to come back to treatment, detox the substances from your body, and re-commit to your sobriety plan. At Coastal Detox, our team members are in recovery themselves. They have had periods of sobriety and relapse, so they know exactly what you’re going through. If you’ve been in treatment with us before, you will always be welcomed back with open arms and no judgement. We want to help you succeed, no matter how many tries it takes.Â
After detox, most patients are ready to transition to inpatient rehab. Medical detox is the period in which drugs and alcohol are cleared from your body and your withdrawal symptoms are stabilized. This physical reset is just the foundation to begin treating the underlying causes of addiction. In inpatient rehab, patients participate in a full schedule of different types of addiction therapies to help them stay sober after treatment. In some cases, patients may discharge from detox into a lower level of care, such as a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP) depending on their substance use and history of past treatment episodes.Â
After you complete residential rehab, you will be ready to step down to a lower level of addiction care. At Coastal Detox, we begin aftercare planning during your inpatient stay so you’ll be ready for a warm handoff to one of our trusted partners for continuing care. Depending on your substance use history and individual needs, we may refer you to outpatient treatment, sober living arrangements, addiction therapists, or recovery groups in your area. Your personalized aftercare plan will include goals, milestones, resources, and relapse prevention strategies. You will also have our direct contact information should you ever need to come back for additional treatment.
Your journey to a healthier, substance-free life doesn’t have to be navigated alone. At Coastal Detox, we are committed to providing you with the compassionate care, expert medical supervision, and personalized support you need to reclaim your future. Whether you have specific questions about our programs or are ready to take that first courageous step toward recovery, our team is standing by to help 24/7. Call us today at 858-333-7396 to speak with a dedicated admissions specialist and begin your path to long-term sobriety.
